Tips For Putting Together Your Makeup Portfolio

For Content

While you are going through cosmetology school, chances are good that you are going to be trying to apply your skill on the side in order to get more practice and to get some industry experience. If you are a makeup artist, it is especially important to get your name out there as soon as possible so that you increase the chances that you will land a job after graduation. Here are some tips for developing your portfolio while you're in cosmetology school to show off what you have learned.

1. Choose Your Organization Pattern

The first thing that you need to do is decide how you are going to organize each page. If the majority of the images of your work are drawings, then you can simply put the drawings on standard 8.5 inches by 11 inches piece of paper. If you have a series of photographs of the makeup that you've put onto a mannequin, a fellow student, or a client, then you probably have multiple shots of these in order to get the details of individual parts of your work. You will want to organize all of the different pictures that you have of a single version of your work on a standard sheet of paper. Resize the photos if necessary in order to get them all to fit. This will allow you to match the style of any drawings that you might have so that your book is reasonably symmetrical.

Finally, you will need to decide how you want to arrange the variation of pictures or photograph collections. You can organize them by theme or by type of project. You could also do it by chronological order in order to show how far you've come as a makeup artist.

2. Get a Professional Leather Binder and Plastic Sleeves

Next, get a professional leather binder and put plastic sleeves in it that will fit the pages of your portfolio. Slide the pages into the sleeves in the order that you decided in step one. This might seem expensive but it will be worth it because you will look put together and professional. It will also be very easy to update this portfolio as you do more work.

3. Make an Online Version

Finally, make a complimentary online version of your makeup portfolio that is in the same order as your normal portfolio. Use a free web service to upload your images and create your online portfolio.
